HDMI Type A receptacles (19 pin) are designed into high-tech electronic devices such as set-top boxes (STB), set-top units (STU), DVD players, audio-video (A/V) receivers, amplifiers, LCD monitors, plasma monitors and high definition televisions (HDTV). HDMI Type A is backwards compatible with single-link DVI-D. |

| It’s higher resolution counterpart, the HDMI Type B receptacle and connector, has 29 pins and carries and expanded HDMI video signal for high-end displays such as those found in WQSXGA, or 3200x2048 resolution displays. HDMI Type B is electrically compatible with dual-link DVI-D. HDMI Type B receptacles are not common in everyday use, but as the HDMI TV connector technology and applications change, they may become more of a household HDMI standard. |

| HDMI Type C receptacles and connectors are considered a mini HDMI version of the HDMI Type A or HDMI Type B, but it has the same configuration of 19 pins as the HDMI Type A connector. These were designed for smaller, more compact, portable devices that would benefit from and HDMI interface. |
